This wholesale refurbishment and extension to a Grade 2 listed terraced property involved creating a single storey extension to link separate portions of the existing property; a first floor extension to house a new bathroom, and conversion of the attic space into an en-suite master bedroom with two dormer windows overlooking the glorious southerly views. Our clients needed to enlarge the property to accommodate their growing family and the additional space substantially enlarged the living areas of a house that was somewhat cramped before a spade was put in the ground. The dining area opens out into the south-facing garden as well as the glazed link between house and outbuildings.
An oak-framed structure holds full height windows that allow light to stream in during the warmer months, but the projecting eaves of the new roof prevent excessive heat build-up in the summer months. A window opening was retained to allow a connection between the new kitchen and dining area, and provides one of the many character features that were lovingly renovated in a house that has been transformed into a stylish, light-filled home, from the previous dark and small cottage. A new bathroom area was created upstairs alongside the renovation works of the bedroom areas on the second and third floors of the house also took place. The original beams in the master bedroom were retained and renovated under the watchful eye of the Conservation Officer to ensure that the conditions set out by the Listed Building consent was complied with.
